TÜV Rheinland Holding AG is the new partner of the LGA Beteiligungs GmbH (holding company) in Nuremberg. In the context of a public-private partnership model, and subject to the agreement of the cartell authorities, TÜV Rheinland Holding AG is acquiring 49% of the shares in the LGA Beteiligungs GmbH, which comprises LGA Bautechnik GmbH, LGA QualiTest GmbH, LGA TrainConsult GmbH and LGA InterCert GmbH. Some 51% of the company's shares remain with the LGA public-law corporation. The new partner has been given the option of acquiring the majority in the LGA Beteiligungs GmbH as of 1 January, 2008. The LGA Beteiligungs GmbH achieved a group profit of EUR 1.4m in fiscal 2004, with total revenues of EUR 45.8m. "The participation of the TÜV Rheinland Group gives the LGA a solid foundation for further growth and entrepreneurial success," says LGA Director Peter Röckl. The new partner will be making a capital increase of EUR 5.5m. By the end of the year 2009, some EUR 19m is to be invested in the LGA Group. The LGA's Nuremberg premises will be expanded, to become the southern regional centre for the whole TÜV Rheinland Group. This is intended to create at least 120 additional jobs. Long-term securities have been given for the existing jobs within the LGA Beteiligungs GmbH. Together, the LGA und the TÜV Rheinland Group now have a widespread network of offices throughout Germany, with two powerful brand names. Moreover, the partnership with the TÜV Rheinland Group will give the LGA immediate access to international markets. Product testing is the business area with the greatest growth at the moment, and the TÜV Rheinland Group and the LGA will take a leading position. "I expect very successful developments for the whole organisation", commented Prof. Bruno O. Braun, TÜV Rheinland Group President and CEO, at the start of the partnership. Dr. Thomas Diehl, Chairman of the LGA's supervisory board, stressed the fact that the restructuring of the LGA, begun in mid-2001, had been successfully accomplished, with its conversion from a public body to a modern service provider and now the entry of an investor and partial privatisation. "The State of Bavaria can be rightly proud of this successful privatisation", said Dr. Diehl. After many years of making losses, the LGA successfully achieved turnaround in 2003, was no longer financed from tax money and again managed to improve its profit figures in the year 2004. The State of Bavaria also made a considerable contribution by making the way clear for the TÜV Rheinland Group's participation. This far-sighted decision to enable privatisation created a firm foundation for the Nuremberg facility and long-term job security. Ministers Dr. Otto Wiesheu and Dr. Günther Beckstein congratulated the LGA on its successful restructuring. In their speeches, they particularly emphasised the fact that the contract with TÜV Rheinland had given security to the Nuremberg office and preserved jobs for its employees. The City of Nuremberg's business representative, Dr. Roland Fleck, said: "The Nuremberg city and region hope that TÜV Rheinland's participation will strengthen the LGA's position as a trend-setter in technology and an instrument of structural policy. Our thanks go to the State of Bavaria for making the way clear for this radical corporate realignment. This has opened up new avenues of opportunity to ensure job security and let the LGA exploit its specialist skills to open up new markets!" For further information
